Creative Scrappers Sketch #233 - Azalea Festival 2010

I am determined to finish my all digital 2010 scrapbook and SOON!  I think it is going to be awesome printed, I just can't seem to get it finished.  It is the only scrapbook I have done digitally, and I went back to traditional for 2011 and 2012.  I'm thinking about doing a digital version of Project Life for 2013.

For this layout I used Creative Scrappers Sketch 233.   I will be linking up the page there.

Even though I am ready to get this album finished it is fun to look back at all the pictures and see how much my kiddos have grown.

Candy Overload

If you are like us you have a candy overload problem right about now.  Normally the candy from all three kids fits into one container, but this year that one container only held one kids candy!!  When we saw our preacher on halloween night he decided our kids bags needed to be full...and I do mean FULL!

I even had to use my cupcake carrying container for candy.  Here is how we handle all of the Halloween candy at our house.  We let them pick out 2 or 3 pieces a day for a couple of days, and then the candy has to go.  We usually find neighbors who don't have small children and share with them, or my husband takes some to work to put in their break room.
This year we decided that as a last candy eating day, we would make carmel apples.  Everyone picked out their favorite candy bar to go on their apple.

The kids loved opening all the caramels.  I was cooking supper at the same time, so I wanted the easiest method for melting the caramel.  We used the microwave and just added about 2 TBSP of water with the carmel before we melted it.  It worked great.
We ended up with a spider in our caramel...with a 7 year old boy that is to be expected.  Lol
Yum crushed candy.  I think the M&Ms were the prettiest.  Those and the Whoppers crushed the best.

The end result...AWESOME!  I think it was the best caramel apple I have ever had.  This one was mine with a Heath bar on it.  Yum.
We also had plenty of apples to take a few to Grandma and Grandpa.  Now our Halloween candy overload is thru until next year...it was fun while it lasted.

I am so excited for the comments and page views I have gotten on this new blogging venture.  Please follow along!

Halloween

I could not have been a more excited mom than when my kids decided to dress up like Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and 2.  I was thrilled.  Dr. Seuss is my favorite ever, and I love that they love his books too.

Plus the costumes were really simple to make, and for this busy mom simple is good.  It took me probably 2 hours max to make all 3 costumes.

They had a lot of people stop them to take their picture while we were out Trick or Treating.  However, there were a few people who didn't get it.  They would say "Thing one and two" and give me a quizzical look.  To me that is sad that you could go through life without knowing the story of the Cat in the Hat.  The people from the library set up at Trunk or Treat loved it though!

Teamwork

The challenge at Punky Scraps right now it to use the following items:

1. use of 3 different punches
2. staples
3. masking
4. chevrons
5. 2 patterned papers
6. 1 photo

I took this list and made it work with digital layouts.

I love this picture of the kids using teamwork to hand our oldest on the clothesline.

Cat in the Hat Pumpkin

My son, who is in the 2nd grade, came home over Fall Break with a book report to complete.  Only this was about the most awesome book report I have ever heard of.

He needed to decide on his favorite book and choose a character from it. He is really into Cat in the Hat right now (well actually any Dr. Seuss book for that matter.  Which makes this momma very happy).
Then after he decided on the character, the task was for he and his parents to create a pumpkin that was that book character.
I told you this was the most awesome book report ever!

Toilet Paper Roll Owls

I saw these really cute owls in Family Fun Magazine, and knew we had to make them.
My 3 kiddos designed, cut, and colored.  I worked the hot glue gun.
My oldest didn't like the idea of making an owl, so he came up with his own idea.  A bat.  He knew Dad needed to spray paint his pumpkin (I'll try to show you the completed pumpkin tomorrow), so he asked him to spray paint his toilet paper roll black for him.
 From left to right:
My 7 year old son's bat.
My 2 year old daughter's owl (with lots of help from me).
Mine (I couldn't let them have all the fun).
My 5 year old daughter's owl.
